Character of the Color Green

Green is everywhere these days.  I mentioned in an earlier post that Cedar Green is the go-to Green for 2010.  If you're curious about how and where to use this hue that's fast becoming a neutral, watch the video below.

This one's for you, Piggy

Green has been important since the days of Cleopatra, when Egyptian women used malachite (the first known source of green pigment) as eyeshadow.  I suppose they were well ahead of their time!

Here are three of my favorite greens.

My favorite green for neutral enviorments and 'color shy' homeowners is: Camouflage, 2143-40 Unfortunately the name is not one that clients take to readily, but it looks wonderful with so many other colors and fabulous in room with white trim.

Green has always been a neutral. It can be warm or cool, yellow or blue. It can be gray and muted or dark or pale. It lends itself to almost any decor. Most likely because it is the color we are surrounded by in nature, it is restful to the eye, but a bright green apple color is anything but restful. It is a hard color to get away from in decor because it is literally everywhere. It's compliment is, of course, red. Placed next to red it becomes greener and the red becomes redder. Added to red, it will dull it, just as red added to green dulls that. There's nothing new about green except that it truly is the perfect neutral.
