Creating Your Dream Home from the Interior Out

NestorResidence_greatroom

Transforming your home may seem out of reach, but with some vision, a few ideas, and (of course) great color choices, you can refresh, reinvent, and rejuvenate any space.  Over the next few weeks, we'll share the home of Samantha Nestor, as designed by Christopher Coleman.  Her mid 20th century ranch style home begged for a colorful makeover that wouldn't break the bank and Chris delivered in some big ways.

Samantha is an author on books about well designed spaces (Living With Wine), has worked for years in the design industry, and is well versed in the importance of color.  She's also a mom to an adorable little toddler, a wife to a gracious husband, and she found herself at a loss as she tried to make her new house feel like a home.  She lived in the space for a while to feel its character and then, when she was ready to make some changes, called her long time friend, Interior Designer Christopher Coleman.  They were lucky in that they knew each other already, but still had some discoveries ahead when it came to decorating her dream home.

Follow along to see how Samantha was able to work in design and color on time and in budget.  If you think hiring a designer is only for celebrities and the wealthiest, you may be surprised.  We'll reveal ideas and insights on why and how to work with a designer so that your project is beautiful, functional, and within your budget.

On Wednesday, I'll post Christopher and Samantha talking a bit more about the great room and how they used color to tie it all together.

What project have you been waiting to start?

Nice design. My greatest problem when it comes to designing is the color combination. Most people would comment on my color combination, they don't usually agree with it. I need to look at a lot of different designs to get color combinations that people would like. I will be using furniture from siekaup on my next design, wish me luck.
BTW, your choice of color combination seems really pleasing to the eye, thanks for sharing.

I'll have to check my photos, Sonu-- or perhaps have some new ones taken of recent projects. I must admit I've been on a Timothy Straw kick lately (and in a teenager's room, Pear Green). And Anjou Pear and Wasabi and Grasshopper from the Affinity Colors Collection . . . .

Hi Debra-- The combo you picked up on is indeed a striking one. Wait until you see how they've carried some of these influences throughout the home. Chris and Sam were very kind to share this project with us. It's brimming with ideas for those of us looking for good tips, ideas, and sophisticated color to inspire ourselves and our clients! (I'd love to see some photos if you've used the chartreuse & navy on a project, too!)

Hi, Sonu. The lime and turquoise combination, visible in the pillows and upholstery, is one of my favorites. Chartreuse and navy, for here in the East, is even better.

colour? show me the colour, that was a tough 2.75 minutes to wade through and not see some colour. Don't really much like the tan colour in this room. it's blah.
